The sun set at 4:15 PM in Falmouth on December 21. Some Falmouth residents spent that night - the longest night of the year - in tents or cars in the parking lot of the First Congregational Church to honor the 49 Cape and Islands unhoused people who died in 2023. The event began with a vigil at the church in recognition of National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day. Read more >

Belonging to Each Other was selected as the 2024 Human Rights Award group recipient by the Church Women United of Cape Cod. A celebration of the award is planned for mid-January.
Since 2006, Church Women United has held events nationally to recognize individuals and groups that have supported the cause of human rights by maintaining a high regard for the dignity of others. Read more >

Belonging to Each Other (BTEO), the Falmouth-based nonprofit providing winter shelter and year-round support services for Falmouth men and women experiencing homelessness, is helping to organize the vigil. The community is invited to sleep out in tents or cars that night to experience what it is like to be homeless.

An outreach group is upgrading to more spacious quarters to house women experiencing homelessness in Falmouth through the winter months. Belonging To Each Other has teamed up with Saint Barnabas’s Church to offer a home with more bedrooms and common areas than they have had in the past as a refuge from November through April. Falmouth In From the Streets Partners, a joint effort by Housing Assistance, Belonging to Each Other and Falmouth Human Services, received Duffy Health Center's Community Partner Award. This award is presented at the Duffy Health Center Community Breakfast, an annual event that celebrates our community and all we’ve accomplished together over the past year.
