Cathy and Roger Kligler

Long term summer residents and now year round residents of Falmouth, Roger and Cathy love the sense of community they feel in Falmouth and believe in the importance of giving back. “ I learned at a very young age from my mother about caring for those unstably housed around us. Mom was a volunteer at the Pine Street Inn and was surprised that the guests were only receiving coffee and no food. She took it upon herself to start a lunch program that then spread to all the communities around our house. I have fond memories of making baloney and cheese sandwiches with my mom. Once we made the sandwiches, she would put them all back in the bread bag and take it back to the Pine Street Inn for the guests. I guess it’s in my blood!” Cathy’s mom has a room named for her at the Pine Street Inn for her idea.

Roger also feels a strong sense of compassion for those in need amongst us. As a Primary Care physician, he knows about the importance of trusting relationships. Roger often worked with people who were unstable housed and that lacked the necessary support systems and worked hard to gain their trust. “Cathy and I like to support local causes here in Falmouth, where we can see the difference they’re making. By building on each partnership, our contributions may inspire others to do the same, and we can all become part of the change that the world should see.

For Roger and Cathy, making a gift of stock to Belonging to Each Other was a simple way to follow their hearts and for them, clearly the right way to make a difference.

How to gift stocks

Make a larger impact by donating long-term appreciated securities, including publicly traded stock, bonds, and mutual funds, directly to charity. Compared with donating cash, or selling your appreciated securities and contributing the after-tax proceeds, you may potentially increase your gift and tax donation.

  • Eliminate capital gains taxes and the Medicare surtax, which combined could be up to 23.8%
  • Take an immediate income tax deduction in the amount of the full fair market value  if you itemize your deductions
  • Maximize support to your favorite charities
