Update on Belonging to Each Other Walk Towards Home event

Our community continues to face challenges due to the recent storm. BTEO appreciates how our community has come together. We want to provide an update regarding the status of our upcoming event this Saturday and share information about the people experiencing homelessness whom we serve.

CHANGE IN EVENT PLANS

BTEO has determined that conditions along the route of our planned Walking Toward Home event are not safe. We want to ensure that no part of the event interferes with ongoing recovery efforts. Therefore, we have decided to move the event indoors, now starting at noon and ending at 2pm. This gathering will provide a therapeutic space for the community to connect and decompress together.

EVENT DETAILS

The event will be held at the First Congregational Church Hall at 68 Main Street, Falmouth, which currently has power and heat. The Cat’s Melodeon, a Cape Cod Irish band, will provide entertainment, and our food sponsors will offer light refreshments. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be available, and registrants may pick up their commemorative caps.

Attendance is limited to 140 people. People who have registered or donated to the event are requested to confirm their attendance by Friday at 5PM. You are welcome to bring members of your household or individuals who are stranded without heat. When replying, please indicate the number of attendees. Others are welcome to join us as well. Please email jayo@bteofalmouth.org or call (508) 444-6360 ext 4. and let us know how many will attend.

SUPPORT FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS

BTEO is currently sheltering 17 people in our houses. These residences now have power and heat. We are grateful for the repeated visits from Eversource to restore service to one of the houses. With the combined efforts of local congregations, nonprofits, agencies, and BTEO, we know of more than 36 other Upper Cape people, previously living outdoors, who have been sheltered in local motels and are receiving food deliveries. Additional organizations and local businesses continue to provide food under challenging circumstances and are welcoming people into their spaces.

We encourage everyone to remain patient, stay safe, and reach out if you need help.
