BTEO Pilots a Next Step Program for Falmouth Unhoused Individuals
May 29, 2026
Falmouth, MA – Belonging to Each Other, Inc. (BTEO) a Falmouth non-profit dedicated to supporting unhoused neighbors, is taking a bold new approach to address the severe shortage of local housing opportunities by announcing a Next Step Program for program alumni who actively worked toward long-term stability.
BTEO has completed its 11th year providing cold-weather seasonal housing with comprehensive wrap-around case management services. The organization’s holistic approach to addressing homelessness in Falmouth goes far beyond providing temporary beds by offering support and community connections that lead to long-term stability.
During the 25-26 season, residents participated in therapeutic groups designed to help them overcome trauma and loss, enabling them to move forward. They prepared for tenancy by enrolling in a savings plan and attending tenancy readiness sessions, locating housing options, and preparing and submitting applications. With the support of staff, volunteers, and community partners, BTEO program residents made significant progress. Executive Director Gina Torielli noted, “Thirteen of our residents worked at local businesses and sixteen of our 30 program residents found permanent, stable housing within our 6-month program. “
Even with these successes, the current housing landscape in Falmouth remains extremely challenging for people in the lower income ranges. “Many of our residents face limited affordable housing options and longer waits to secure a place to live”, said Carol Greeley, BTEO Program and Clinical Director. To prevent residents from losing momentum, in March 2026, BTEO Board approved a “Next Step” pilot program, offering additional months of housing for seven to ten current residents who were steadily working toward their housing goals. The program opened this month. housing individuals who are employed or volunteering at local businesses and agreed to pay a program fee to BTEO. An anonymous donor agreed to fund the pilot program. This marks the first time Belonging to Each Other has offered a warm-weather housing option.
Another key goal of this pilot is to retain individuals who work in Falmouth during the busy summer season, people whose departure would impact their progress and the local workforce. The pilot will run through October 2026, after which BTEO will evaluate its impact and assess community support for continuing the program.
